Tomie By Norm Wood
Norm Wood created this portrait of Tomie in 1952.
Norm Wood was a senior at Pratt Institute in 1952. He graduated in 1953. His girlfriend lived in the Caroline Ladd Pratt House, a women's freshman dorm. His girlfriend, a senior, was a counselor in the Caroline Ladd Pratt House.
Each night between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m., the Pratt House hosted an open house with coffee and cookies. Norm Wood was at the Pratt House most nights during the open house offering to draw portraits.
Tomie and his friends would often take a study break in the evening and walk the two or three blocks to the Pratt House open house. One night, Norm Wood drew Tomie's portrait and gave the drawing to Tomie.
