Mother Placid

Tomie visited for the first time, on Sunday, the grave of his dear friend Mother Placid, with his friend, and Mother Placid's niece, Mother Praxedes, on the grounds of the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut.

You can see the gold heart that Tomie made.  It's surrounded by flower petals.

Roger Crossgrove Memorial Service

Tomie spoke at the University of Connecticut, on Saturday, at the memorial service for his Pratt Institute painting instructor, Roger Crossgrove.

Tomie met Kristin Eshelman, an archivist at the Dodd Research Center.

Frances is one of the twins, Franny and Fuffy, in Tomie's books.

First Read-Through

Tomie and Mother Dolores had their first read-through together, on Sunday, of the three stories that they will narrate on June 24 and June 25 at The Gary The Olivia Theater on the grounds of the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, CT.  They will narrate BIG ANTHONY, HIS STORY, and STREGA NONA, and STREGA NONA MEETS HER MATCH while children perform on stage.

Sally and Tom Camm are the artistic directors.

Tomie dePaola and Mother Dolores on Stage!

Tomie and Mother Dolores will narrate some of Tomie's stories on stage at The Gary-The Olivia Theater on the grounds of the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut, on June 24 and June 25.  Book autographings will follow the performances.

Mother Dolores was once an actress in Hollywood.  She was then known as Dolores Hart.  She gave Elvis his first on-screen kiss.  A documentary about her was Oscar-nominated several years ago.

Tomie met Dolores Hart a couple of days before she flew to Italy to start filming the movie "Francis of Assisi," released in 1961.
