Old Friends

Some of Tomie's OLDEST friends (well, he actually has friends who are older)... Tomie has known Joan and Dan O'Connor for a very long time. Joan (aka Joan of California) and Dan met Tomie at his autographing (with Lin Oliver) at the Reading Bug bookstore in San Carlos, California, last night.

Kayla is in Miss Netti's second grade class in Levittown, New York. Although it is rainy today in New London, New Hampshire, and it might be snowy tonight, Kayla's drawing reminds us that brighter days are ahead.

Rockin' (Lullabyin'?) in Tomie's Studio

Will and Tomie are creating a lullaby for the Strega Nona Treasury which will be published during Fall 2015. Jessica, Fred and Chelsea joined Will today at Tomie's studio to perform the lullaby for Tomie.

The lullaby will eventually be recorded. The recording will accompany the book.

Fiona and Jessica were in New England visiting colleges, and stopped to visit Tomie as they traveled from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire to Brown University in Rhode Island.

Tomie had met them just a few days earlier at a memorial service for his godmother, cousin and mentor, Kathryn "Fuffy" Abbe, on Long Island. Fuffy had been a Quaker, so the service was held in a wonderful Quaker Friends meeting house in Jericho, New York. It was an emotional and beautiful remembrance service for Fuffy.

Jessica, Fiona and Jessica's sister, Jenny, came east to represent the West Coast Abbes at the memorial. Jessica is co-producer with her husband, Toby McLeod, of the Sacred Land Film Project.
