Agreeable Tomie

Tomie has agreed to participate in the National Book Festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC, during the weekend of September 24th and 25th. Tomie has been invited many times in the past, but has declined until now.

Tomie has also agreed to be part of this year's Connecticut Book Fair at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, during the weekend of November 12th and 13th.

Jen Crompton and Chris McDevitt were here this morning to film Tomie reading some of his stories for an upcoming "New Hampshire Chronicle" Christmas special, WMUR-TV (ABC). WMUR-TV has been kind enough to feature Tomie over the years. We're especially pleased when Jen and Chris are "assigned" to Tomie.

Carle Museum Planning with Barbara and Don Elleman

We met Barbara and Don Elleman this noon for lunch at Burdick's in Walpole, New Hampshire. Walpole is the home of filmmaker Ken Burns and a wonderful restaurant and chocolate shop. It's also a halfway meeting point for the Ellemans and us.

Barbara is curating "Drawings from the Heart: Tomie dePaola Turns 75," a retrospective exhibition at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, July 3 - November 1, 2009.

It now appears as if most of the activities with Tomie "in the house" will be on Sunday, July 19, and a weekend in mid-October (the weekend yet to be determined).

Since the Ellemans are close friends, it was great to use the Carle exhibition as an excuse to get together.
