Mrs. Cooper's second grade class at Buttonwillow School in Buttonwillow, California, sent Andrea's Flat Stanley for a visit. Tomie asked Flat to review the first proofs of MY MOTHER IS SO SMART (publication on March 18, 2010) that were received this afternoon. Flat gave the proofs a "thumbs up." Tomie said, "Thanks, Flat!"
Henry is in Charlene Carson's second grade class at the Northville School in New Milford, Connecticut. Henry's Flat Nesy, the reading cow, visited the future site of Tomie's gnu. Tomie's gnu will be in front of Morgan Hill Bookstore in New London, New Hampshire during the months of June, July, August and September. The first grade students in the classes of Mrs. Judware, Mrs. Darling and Mrs. Carino's classes at Barringer Road Elementary, in Ilion, New York, sent Flat Stanley for a visit. What good fortune! This time of year, we need a lot of help in the yard and gardens. We put Flat to work. Here he is helping Barbara trim the dead leaves from the nearly 30 large pots of agapanthus. Thanks, Flattie!
Emma, Adrianna and Angela in Azora Cook's class at Putman Elementary in Blanchester, Ohio sent me three Flat Mia Hamms. I discovered that the Flat Mia Hamms were not only good soccer players, but they were handy in the greenhouse. I named each one Flat the Florist. Here they are, in the house greenhouse, with the amaryllis flowers they cut in the barn greenhouse. I'll put the flowers in a vase later today. Thanks, Flats!
Flat Stanley, by John S. in Miss Ladurantaye's class in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, is a good sport. Today is a beautiful, mild and sunny day and Flat has offered to shovel some of the snow into a sunnier area so that it will melt. Don't hurt your back, Flat!

Tomie returned earlier today from Book Tour. Here he is at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport with his luggage and his traveling companion, Flat Nesy, the reading cow. Nesy was sent to Tomie by Christian of Mrs. Carson's class at Northville Elementary.Tomie and the cow attracted attention in the parking lot as they posed for their photo op. Tomie told the cow, "Nes, chilax, this is what it's like to be a celebrity."
